Robogrammetry for Atos ScanBox allows to capture large parts such as car bodies and side panels fast, precisely and reproducibly. To ensure process reliability when transforming measurements, robogrammetry combines robot positions and newly developed reference cubes.

The reference cubes combine the properties of coded and uncoded markers. Compared to a traditional photogrammetry measurement, considerably less elements are required.

Measuring object in the most efficient way

New tools for planning, checking and visualizing the exact positioning of reference cubes allows to quickly apply the cubes onto the measuring object in the most efficient way.

In double robot measuring cells, the new software version automatically allocates measurement positions to the appropriate system side.

ATOS Measuring Data – Post-Processing Performance

Especially regarding photogrammetry and fine adjustment, the computation time has been significantly reduced in the GOM Software 2017, thus allowing a swift postprocessing of measuring data.

Particularly in projects that contain numerous measurements, a substantially higher performance can be noticed. In two evaluated customer projects containing approx. 1,200 ATOS measurements, for example, the GOM Software 2017 saved 80 % to 90 % of time for postprocessing.

Optimization in the virtual measuring room

Despite the reduced computation time, the accuracy remains just as high. Furthermore, the performance of the path optimization in the virtual measuring room was increased.


The acceleration of the workflows is also noticeable in the TRITOP system. The more images a photogrammetry project contains, the more time you save.

Open Data Architecture and ARAMIS Kiosk Interface for Materials Testing

Comparing and simultaneously visualizing measuring data and exchanging data in general becomes more and more important in metrology.

Therefore, additional scalar values and geometries, e.g. from simulation programs, can be imported into ARAMIS Professional 2017 and GOM Correlate Professional 2017.

The data created in the GOM software can be exported in different formats and can be used, for example, for oscillation analysis in a third-party software.
With the ARAMIS Kiosk Interface, GOM provides a new user interface for the evaluation of tensile tests. This way, standardized testing procedures can be carried out fast, easily and specifically.

The selection of further software features:

3D Metrology:

  • Extended CT import: Objects that were scanned with one CT simultaneously can be imported as individual meshes. GOM offers various polygonization modes for the import.
  • Extended surface defect analysis: Surface defect analyses can now also be created in curved directions and without specifying the normal direction of the surface area.
  • Improved airfoil inspection: Regions with different tolerances can be created on a section or a curve.
  • Furthermore, profile edge ellipses can be generated to determine fitting ellipses at the leading edge and trailing edge of an airfoil profile.
  • Extensive 3D clipping functionality: Hidden areas of the measuring object can be visualized by using the hexagonal clipping cuboid.
  • Support of several monitors: In order to display different information on inspection elements simultaneously, the software allows to arrange windows, such as the diagram or the explorer, on one or several monitors.
  • Simplified renaming of elements: In the new software version, it is possible to rename and number multiple elements at once.
  • New selection function: Mesh areas lying above a defined plane can be selected automatically.
  • Activation of warning limits: When creating an element or modifying its properties, a warning limit can now be enabled, provided that tolerances were defined.
  • New ellipse functions: In the GOM Software 2017, you can easily construct auto ellipses and fitting ellipses.
  • Facilitated creation of actual elements: The new measuring principle “compute on actual” combines the “referenced construction” and the “fitting element” based on an improved selection method.
  • Automatic exposure time: The software automatically sets the exposure time both for ATOS measurements and photogrammetry (VMR) to achieve the maximum number of well-exposed reference points and optimally exposed surfaces.
  • New thermometer functions: The GOM Software 2017 offers various options to measure the temperature manually or automatically.
  • Capturing measuring objects in the VMR: Even if only individual parts of a measuring object are measured, for example parts of a car body, the software is able to create a coherent photogrammetry for the entire assembly.
  • Path optimization in the VMR: Measurements that are carried out by the system through the same opening, as is the case when measuring the interior of a car body, are performed successively. In this way, the measurement series contains fewer intermediate positions.

3D Testing:

  • Evaluation of several measuring projects in ARAMIS: Different perspectives of the measuring object can be measured with one or several measuring systems and evaluated in one common project.
  • Computation of strain rate: Inter-stage checks allow you to analyze how strain is changing over time.
  • Static point component: This new function allows you to evaluate a subset of reference points in a point component. This makes sense especially in projects with many potentially recognizable reference points.
  • Median filter: The software determines the median for the rank order filter from all values the spatial filter refers to.
